Come boogie down and shake your groove thing to awesome, live dj-ed music. Kick off your shoes and dance the night away to rock and roll, soul, rhythm and blues, jazz, funk, world beat. Begin your weekend on a positive note having fun and connecting with fellow Sacramento community dancing free spirits. Plenty of time to move; comfy seating to chat. Potluck snacks to share and BYO non-alcoholic beverages.
What happens in Dance Jam?
- Free-form dance to a wide variety of dj-ed music that moves in wave after wave that starts slowly, steadily picks up to a high point and then gently comes down the other side. No steps to learn, just follow your own beautiful energy and know that all you expression is welcome here. Dance with other people if you wish, feel into the energy of the whole community.
- It is always a good idea to start slowly with stretching and movement and be in relationship with your aches and pains, moving in ways that feel healing. Pace yourself and stay hydrated.
- Foot support may be needed; soft-soled shoes or dance shoes are the best choice. Dancing barefoot will help to ground you, build your balance and reflexes and strengthen your feet. Many dancers build tolerance to barefoot by beginning a session without shoes and then slipping them on as soon as they feel any discomfort.
- There is a table where you can bring snacks to share and non-alcoholic beverages.
- There are benches on the sidelines for resting and visiting. Unlike in the 5Rhythms practice, Dance Jam is not held in silence.
- Celebrate the incredible joy of your body in motion and have fun!
