Come into your body through the discipline of Gabrielle Roth's 5Rhythms practice. Find your flow, your staccato edge, release in chaos, feel the way you are delivered to lyrical and then naturally fall into stillness. Feel your body and spirit in motion free form dancing to a wave of awesome DJ-ed music. One hour onTuesday nights at Deep, an elegant studio in mid-town with a great dance floor and original art work gracing the walls. Two hours on Thursday nights at Clunie, a vintage brick hall with a fabulous wood floor and large windows that overlook McKinley Park, the setting sun and the rising moon. Treat yourself to an exploration of your interior world and connect with a great community.

What happens in 5Rhythms Dance?

  • Warm up: we leave our busy day behind, slowly connect with our bodies in motion.
  • Opening circle: we gather briefly to set an intention.
  • Musical wave: free-form dance to a wide variety of dj-ed music that starts slowly, steadily picks up the pace and then gently delivers us down to quiet integration. Coaching connects us with our natural rhythms as we explore simply being present with ourselves, relating with others, and tapping into the communal energy. Occasional guest instructors.
  • Closing circle: group gathers briefly to anchor and honor our experience. We close promptly, with ample time after to connect.

Honor your spirit:

  • We move in silence. Mental activity is inevitable; verbalizing often decreases the power of the message emerging from our interior world.
  • You are your own authority. Participate in the manner that feels right for you and let others have the experience that is right for them.
  • Recognize and honor boundaries. Some people choose to move with or touch each other. Others choose to dance alone. Both are O.K.
  • All your expression is welcome here. Sometimes movement brings up emotion. Let it flow and keep moving. Let others have their own experience; there is no need to "fix" someone else.
  • Participation in the opening and closing circle will help you fully arrive and then anchor your experience.

Honor your body:

  • Start slowly with stretching and movement. Stay hydrated. Pace yourself by staying in rhythm while lying down, sitting or walking.
  • Be in relationship with your aches and pains. Move in ways that feel healing; increased pain with motion is not healthy. Please let the facilitator know if you have sustained an injury during class.
  • Foot support may be needed; soft-soled shoes or dance shoes are the best choice. Dancing barefoot will help to ground you, build your balance and reflexes and strengthen your feet. Many dancers build tolerance to barefoot by beginning a session without shoes and then slipping them on as soon as they feel any discomfort.
  • Celebrate the incredible joy of your body in motion and have fun!
