Join our vibrant Sacramento dance community for a transformative
moving meditation at all of these venues:



Practicing 5Rhythms is movement medicine, a profound, delightful meditation that celebrates the body temple, puts it in motion, stills the mind and frees our creative spirit. There are no steps to follow, no choreography to learn, no way to do it wrong. It is a no effort physical workout and transformative work without language. It is a path home to our rich interior world, a laboratory to explore relating to others, an opportunity to re-imagine community. It is a come-as-you-are party, a safe place to express our unique truth.



The rhythms danced in sequence is called a wave. These are the 5Rhythms:

Flowing:
We let the dance in, feel our feet on the floor, the weight of our bodies and the fluid, continuous glide of our own movements. We practice being receptive, tuning in, simply being.

Staccato:
We let the dance out and feel the thousand shapes driven by the percussive pulse of the beat. We practice allowing our passionate hips and hearts to express who we are in the world.

Chaos:
We let the dance go releasing and surrendering
to the unpredictability of our life and our dance.
We practice shaking loose everything we hold on
to.

Lyrical:
When we move through the portal of the first
3 rhythms, we feel the possibility of lightening
up, letting go of all effort, delivered to the dissolution
of self-consciousness. We practice making space
for new possibilities.

Stillness:
We let the dance be by allowing gentle movements
to rise and fall in a field of silence & breath. We
practice emptying enough that spirit can move
through us.

What happens in a 5Rhythms class?

Warm up: time to arrive, leave the busy day behind, slowly connect with our bodies in motion

Opening: set an intention, focus the guided meditation

Musical wave: a wide variety of DJ-ed music that starts slowly, steadily picks up to a peak and then gently glides down to stillness. Coaching connects us with our natural rhythms and helps us stay with a practice of presence with ourselves, relating with others, and feeling into our place in the collective.

Closing: anchoring and concluding our experience.

Honoring our spirit:

We move in silence. Thinking is inevitable; verbalizing often interferes with the message emerging from our interior world.

We are our own best authority. We participate in the manner that feels right for us and let others have the experience that is right for them.

Recognize and honor boundaries. Some people choose to move with or touch each other. Others choose to dance alone. Both are O.K.

All of our expression is welcome. Sometimes
movement brings up emotion. We let it flow
and keep moving. We let others have their
own experience; no need to "fix" someone else.

Participation in the opening and closing help us
fully arrive and then integrate our experience.

Honoring our body:

Start slowly with stretching and movement. Stay hydrated. Rest when needed and pace by staying in rhythm lying down, sitting or walking.

Be in relationship with aches and pains. Move in ways that feel healing; increased pain with motion is not healthy. Please let the facilitator know if you have sustained an injury during class.

Foot support may be needed; soft-soled shoes or dance shoes are the best choice. Dancing barefoot will help ground you, build your balance and reflexes and strengthen your feet. Many dancers build tolerance to barefoot by beginning a session without shoes and then slipping them on as soon as they feel any
discomfort.
